And it stimulates their empathetic skills and curiosity towards everyone around them near and far.

About Hey, who are you?

The children's book Hey, who are you? is created by Monique Tekstra-van Lochem, from The Netherlands. Monique felt the need to teach her own children as well as the children in daycare and at school, that there is more in the world than that what is obvious in their lives. The colourful illustrations are made by Priscilla Bechan and Daisy van Tussenbroek.

Ever since the publication of Hey, who are you? (in Dutch Hé, wie ben jij?) in 2021, it has become the big book of discovery that helps parents, teachers and childcare professionals to show children the diversity of people and cultures and to make these, sometimes difficult subjects, a more easy topic of conversation and more practically applicable.

And the book also lets children discover themselves and teaches them that they, like all children, are unique and can be who they are. With everything that comes with that. It also helps adults to renew their vision of the world, and see it through the eyes of a child: open, curious and unprejudiced

And with the additional games, activities and lessons this becomes even easier and more fun

Together we can contribute to a new generation of children that have more understanding of eachother and who can grow up in an inclusive society full of diversity.

What our readers think about

Hey, who are you?

It is really a beautiful book. Inside as well as outside. Our daughter (4 years old) finds all characters very interesting. And with the extra information behind the QR code, we can build a whole theme around it at school or childcare. It is very original and inviting!

We used Hey, who are you? to show children different children from around the world. We wanted to show them that there are different children who have different customs and living conditions and situations. Everyone belongs. Hey, who are you? is a beautiful book that makes you enthusiastic to talk/read/watch movies and make children aware that the world is bigger than their own surroundings.
